Sony IC Recorder

I need some help. When trying to download the recorded messages from my Sony IC (ICD-SX25)Recorder I get an error message telling me that the computer can not communicate with the recorder even though the recorder is displaying the proper message 'PC Link'.
Their troubleshooting instructs me to reconnect usb cable & look for the proper message on the recorder's screen - which I already have.
Suggestions?
