Yes, it actually works.
Before I bought a new G-board and replaced it, I resoldered the two tiny diodes indentified as the problem. That fixed the set. I still have the original, resoldered G-board in the garage.
Quick fix I did it on my sony KP57WS520 Cut one pin on the D6301 diode move it just a little so there is no contact reinstall the G-Board TV powered right up
Which I got a little impatient and since I didnt really want to stick any money into it, I just decided to try it. It works. Not sure what the implications/side affects are to it or how long the quick fix will work, but it works.

The fix of the G board does work. One of the diodes was too small for me to work on. I sent it out to a Sony place in Pa. It was $61.00 plus S&H.
hello
anyone of yours have the number of reference to the Gboard? i looking for the generic number.
in the manual is the G board like A-1054-157-A G BOARD, COMPLETE but in my local Sony Parts Store says what this is dicontinued, i live in mexico i have the 10 and 9 bliks error on my TV
Of D6301 and D6309, one of them is populated with a diode, and the other has a wire jumper installed. Remove the jumper, and install a 1N4007 diode as indicated on the silkscreen.
It is essentially a free fix, and will probably solve 50% of the 9-flash problem.
The other diode (not the jumper) becomes leaky and screws up the waveform timing (correct frequency, but asymmetric), which caused the problem with my set, and another just like it.
If you connect your scope to the junction of D6116 and D6117, and you don't see a pretty steady waveform(half-wave rectified), install the diode like I said above.
ETA: These diodes are located on the 'G' (power supply) board.
A pal just picked this TV from his wife's sister with the same error.
Long story short, if you click the link Larry embedded to go to partstore, check the link as its missing the T & the url says partsore.
When you get there, if you enter the generic part number on the right that gave use, part store say try again, but if you se the actually P.N., it comes up, with the generic
Anyway, I just ordered these parts & while I'm waiting on them to arrive it appears a few, well, more than a few solder joints could use some touch up.
I'm sure glad I was schooled in micro miniature soldering while in the USN & also being a past TV repair tech & now a Supervisor PCB SMT & through hole contract MFG. helps a bit!
Anyway, if this works, Thanks Larry for your TS insight!
I have a sony kp-51ws520 that has the same 9blinks and replaced both diode and my tv still will not come on. could you please help me with this ?
and please send me the service manual please .
Hey guy's,
I also have same TV but a different problem. My colors are having issues, it's kinda strange, it's like the white balance is off or something. If there is alot of blue on the image, everything has a blue Hue. If there is alot of white, the white overpowers all other colors. All colors are there just not getting processed right. Lot of black, whole image is real dark. I am a 20 year photocopier tech, so i don't mind digging in, just unfamiliar with TV's. I have downloaded service manual and done resets but with no help. And yes i have defaulted all user settings to default, no luck.
Any help would be great!
im ordering the two diodes to try to fix the problem mentioned above with the 9 flash code. I have one other problem with the remote you have to hold it in weird positions to get it to function and even then some functions on the remote do not work at all. I have 3 original equipment remotes all do the same thing. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
maybe the remote eye as some call it but it is a remote sensor is out of place and not sitting straightb in the little window on front of the set?

I want to thank Larry, I'm so glad I happened on this forum. I had 9 blinks on my set, called Sears and they wanted $55.00 just to come here and whatever the repair was. I sent the G board to Sony and within 2 week I had the board back and the tv is working again.. This was the best $75.00 spent. Thanks Again..
I have the same problem with the nine blinks. I tried to remove the g board so I can take the board in to get the diodes soldered on, but the wire that connects the cn6004 is on there pretty good. Is there a certain way I can remove this without damaging the g board? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
I've tried the quick fix discussed and it worked great the first time for about 2 months. I'm having to heat up the D6301 diode or remove 1 pin weekly to get my TV to turn on. Does anyone have a more permanent solution to this 9-blink error problem?
I had this problem and I ended up having to change one of the projection tubes (blue, I think) along with two of the crt socket boards. This fixed it permanently (been a couple of yrs now) The tube drew too much current and could not be adjusted even though emission was still good. If the tube(s) draw too much current, the set won't start & you get the blinky-blinks..
Hello does anyone out there have the service manual for this tv? I really need it if you could send it to my email I would appreciate it very much. Email is [email protected] thanks again.
this manual is available in techlores technicians corner for free as a PDF download just go to the home page click on the resources tab them tech corner box then view all.
Larry D.
Thank you Mr. Dillon and everyone else for all of your help. I used the info in this topic here as well as the service manual from the technician's corner and my brother and I spent a few hours on it and the tv is working perfectly now.
well that is great news !! always good to hearwhen we help folks and they take the time to thank us. we very rearly hear from the ones that we do help. ????

Hello Larry. Nice to see you've helped so many people. I'm a novice so the though of removing a G Board spells doom for me. But I'm willing to give it a shot and send it in to Sony for repair. I too get the 9 blinks, and sometimes the tv turns on, sometimes it doesn't. My email address is [email protected] if you could send me out the manual as well. Thanks.
I also have a Sony KP-51WS520 that will not turn on and is blinking nine times. I have read all of the threads above and have become confused about the G Board. I ordered the two diodes from Sony tonight for $20. Will the diodes fix the TV or would I need to replace the G Board? Thanks, Marcus
I had the same problem as described above (LED blinking nine times). I removed my G board per the service manual and sent the board to TriState Module. They repaired the board for $49.95 plus $10.03 for shipping. I installed the G board and the TV fired right up. I highly recommend Tri-State because they delivered exactly as promised (thanks especially to Jeremy Mabis, TSM Service Manager). Thanks also to Larry Dillon for posting the Service Manual, and for his patience in answering the postings. Tri-State's phone number is 800.203.7484. The company is located in Evansville Indiana USA. Thanks! I removed the G board and replaced the two diodes listed above and the TV fired up with no problem. Only cost me $18.43 for the diodes that I purchased from Sony.
I was talking about the:

I'll post pictures soon.

Well I got my parts, put them in & now I have 4 blinks vs. 9.
So what's next guys??

Butchn, silly question, have you tried to turn it on yet what happens
Hi Larry, not a silly question, but yes, I did try to turn it on & thatÂ’s how I knew I had 4 blinks vs. the original 9.
The polarities are correct with the installation.
And you wrote earlier, resoldering does not help as I had to try.
My old diodes via my Fluke 77 on the diode test scale tested good, which was also how I checked polarity on the SMT diode.
Still A zero cross-over protection problem in the power supply? not real familiar with that circuit in that model?
Does this mean that the TV is NG since it went from 9 to 4 blinks after the repair?
we are having the same problem with the tv not turning on and we dont have the manual could someone please send me the manual too.
