Hi does any one have any idea how to fix a problem i have with my setup? I have tried three amps, The third today brand new from maplins. 2 mixers, check cables cant rem how many times, with the same result. I am getting a really low output on one chan. When i slide the vol up on mixer, it sound like a distored state. The only thing i have not change is the speaker. It will be doing that next. Does anyone think it could be the xover modules between speaker and horn. Funny thing is both speakers seems to play ok from the working channel. Its wierd.

Home Speaker Setup/Receiver Config

Ok, here's my setup: Fronts - Def. Tech ProMonitor 1000s, 4 surrounds - Def Tech ProMonitor 60s ProCenter 60 and ProSub 60, Receiver - Pioneer Elite VSX-80-TXV. I recently read an article that indicated I may have had my speaker wired incorrectly to get the best sound ( I had them wired direct from receiver to speakers). The manual and some sites suggested that I should wire the receiver to the sub, sub to the fronts. I did that (with mixed results). So, my question is this, with this current setup, how should I be utilizing the crossovers? Should I set my receiver all the way up to 200hz and use the sub low level crossover, or turn the sub crossover all the way up to 150 hz and use the receiver? I am now using the first scenario and it seems like the highs out of my fronts are really dominant. Not sure what to do. Thanks.

Surround Speakers

Hi, everyone, I am not 'technical' but I came across this community trying to find an answer to a question. I though someone here might be able to help. I have a set of surround speakers from an old TV. They are what I would call 'conventional' speakers that are fed by ordinary speaker wire - two core with the bare wire ends connected to clips on the back of the speaker. Same arrangement for the output from the TV. I have now bought a modern TV with audio out, left and right sockets on the back of the TV. My question is this - is there some arrangement or adaptor whereby I can connect the exising surround speakers to the new TV using the exisiting speaker wire and surround speakers? The reason I want to do this is that I have gone to a lot of trouble to bury the existing speaker wires under the floor and in the walls and I'd like to continue to use them if I can. Many thanks

Surround Sound Issues

Hi Great site and you guessed it having problems setting up my sharp home cinema model No HT-CN400dv system to my Samsung lcd tv LE32A41b. I also have a Virgin media cable box. So here is the problem, having set up the home cinema with scart and phono leads, it plays great when a dvd in the home cinema, but as soon as I switch to normal TV no sound on the surround sound, even after trying the different settings on the home cinema, but the weird thing is when the TV is turned off the surround sound centre speaker works with sound from the TV!!!!. I have one scart from the TV to the Cable box, running from Ext 1 (TV) into scart(TV) on the cable The other Scart from Ext 2 (TV) into the home cinema also from there phono leads from the out 1 of the home cinema into the AV phono of the TV, hope this is not confusing. Any idea's or suggestions would be great thanks Martyn Bowie

I recently purhased an Altec Lansing VS2421 Speaker system and the audio from the speakers works great. My question is, how do I use the mic that came with it and/or how do I plug it in? The "limited" setup diagram on the carton states that the mic is built into the included control module. However, I haven't a clue as how to set it up in order to use this mic. Any help would be appreciated. I have attempted to seek help from Altec Lansing support to no avail.

From Definitive Technology's Mythos ST SuperTower at $1800/pair to Altec Lansing's PT-8051 Wireless Theater System at $1000, Electronic House has announced the winner of this year's awards for the best speaker systems under the sun. There are 37 of them, in all shapes and sizes and for all purposes, but the winner is...... The Bowers & Wilkins 683 My big question is... Who spends $1800 for speakers? I know I'm a noob, but I'm just not sure how that works. Anyway, for all you audiophiles out there, I thought I'd mention the awards. Happy speakering...

I just read an article on globeandmall.com about Virtual Surround Sound. They were reviewing a product from Phillips (called the Philips HTS8100 SoundBar) that claims to be able to deliver surround sound rivaling 5.1 from a single speaker at the front of the room. To accomplish this magic, the SoundBar bends sound around the room intead of shooting it out of each speaker in a cone. See the following image... My question: Has anyone used this or other systems like it? Even if not, do you think this is legitimate technology or a bit of hokum? Thoughts? Opinions? Experiences? Other Resources Interesting article on HowStuffWorks about Virtual Surround Sound CNet review of the HTS8100

We are renovating our house. My question is: Does the speaker cable have to be physically separated from the electrical wiring that we are running, and if so, by how much distance. My concern is that the electrical wiring might cause static in the speakers if the cable is too close to the wire. Is there any real need for concern here? Thanks, Jane
