First computer and Virgin Broadband help

A friend has finally given in to techology and decided to buy a computer, and she has asked for my help in setting up a Broadband service. As she uses Virgin TV and telephone service, this has thrown me completely as all my experience is with the old-fashioned BT type service. After a quick look at the Virgin website, I can't find a single word of help on this topic. There must be a straightforward article somewhere with all the necessary info, so I thought I'd consult the Techlore oracles. Help me please! My main queries are about how the service works, and she'lll need any hardware (that isn't part of Virgin's package). Thanks for reading this.

Acoustik Audio LT980/2 Amp cut out

I've been going crazy for about a week now trying to figure out the sudden problem to my 16 month old car audio system. My head unit is a Sony Xplod, that is just wired directly into the stock speakers. All I did was add a little bass with a Diesel Audio SRS Pre-Amp, an Acoustik Power LT980/2 amp, and a pair of 10" JBL GT1041D subs. Basically, it's always worked great except for the pre-amp I had to exchange due to a bad knob. Then suddenly one day my bass speakers cut out when playing a deep bass song at loud volume. Turn the unit off for about 5 minutes, and they're back on. As long as I'm dealing with bass at low volume, or only a little bass at high volume, it works no problem. Speakers don't pop or crackle, cone seems fine. Amp doesn't get hot. Voltage from the battery 12.5 volts constant with 12 volts from the remote. It's the 'ok sometimes part' that's throwing me for a loop. Monster 12 guage to the subs. 10 guage fused to the battery. Changing out an average sized ground tomorrow, to a short 10 guage as well. No...

How do I choose my In-Dash CD Receiver

There are a few choices for me,like the followings: Signal-to-Noise Ratio: The higher the ratio, the crisper the sound, especially when you want to crank the volume. Built-in Four-way Power: While this is standard in most in-dash CD receivers, you'd better check just in case. Without this feature, you'll need a separate amp to crank your tunes. Sound Control Options: You might only want simple bass or treble controls, or you might want a loudness control for a fuller sound, a bass boost to get you through your hip-hop phase, or a multiband equalizer and digital signal processing controls to fine-tune your sound to your vehicle's contours. Security Features: There are many security options available--from detachable faceplates to programmable security codes and built-in alarms. CD Changers : Having a multidisc CD changer will lead to safer driving and enhanced security. Load up several CDs before you drive, and you'll be ready for hours of listening pleasure and convenience. Digital music CD Changer: A revolutionary product that allows you to connect your iPod or MP3 player directly to the CD changer port of your original car stereo for the best possible sound quality, it will even allow you to control it...

wireless problem

I have a belkin wireless card that no longer connects to the internet, although it worked for months before. The signal is strong, my computer says the device is working properly, I can download from bittorrent and limewire but can't connect through a browser. I am running vista, and yesterday I bought and installed a new wireless card and have the same problem. I called belkin support and they said adjust the settings on my router, but if I never changed them why would it stop working? Has anyone seen this before? Thanks, all.

Of course, there is no phone number to call in the US for any kind of help. Any suggestions as to what I can do to correct? Thanks for the help or suggestions. Lisa

how to make a MP3 CD

I may have not been clear enough in my first request for help. I have ripped music from store bought CDs using Windows Media Player. I then used a program called Bonkenc audio encoder to save them in MP3 format. I want to now transfer them to a CD in MP3 format so I can cram as much as possible on it and then play the CD in my trucks radio. I was told that this could be done and to save the music I am burning to CD as data, not audio. If I save it as audio I can only get 15 or so songs on a CD, as data I can get 100+ songs on CD. I am using a CDR disc and it plays on my computer but not in my trucks radio. What am I missing? Thanks

I was curious about all the different types of Wi-Fi devices out there. The availability seems to changes so rapidly I was wondering if there was a database for all that is available and all that will be coming out soon. I also get asked sooo many times per day from my customers about connectors on the back of their routers and coming out of their wireless internet cards for their laptops, only im not sure which is which... There are connectors like (Reverse Polarity) TNC, (Reverse Polarity) SMA, and so on and so on... any one know where I could find out more about each router/wireless card? Be it schematics, or connector type, or which ones are the most proliffic? Really appreate any feedback. Thanks

I received a non-working electric fireplace. The model is DBL2000-MS2 made by Ningbo Jiaqing. There is no power going through and I can't find a schemaic online anywhere for this unit or any information. On the unit chipboard there is a place right where the ac cord plugs on and there is a spot for a component marked 471. The component itself has been removed and I have no idea what belongs in this empty space. Does anyone have a suggestion or know anything about these things?? What belongs here or where I can find a schematic??
