Power Supply Help

I'm looking for a power supply that will be able to turn off all of my devices connected to the tv by just turning off the remote. I want to get rid of all of the standby power and just basically be able to shut off my TV and have everything else go dead. Is there anything like that out there?

My taste in style has always been what I would call "understated contemporary," meaning plain, simple, and functional. I'll also admit I have little desire to spend a fortune on something that holds my A/V components. I'd rather buy new gear. My prior solution was the pinnacle of cheap, yet functional. Many of my components are stacked on top of my big 55" CRT rear-pro HDTV, while the others are stacked neatly under my left and right speakers using a stackable desktop wire shelf/organizer system I picked up at an office supply store. It doesn't support the bulk of my larger components, like my 65 pound receiver, but it does handle my light weight devices like my cable box, DVR, DVD player, component width surge protector, and my VCR. On the right side, I've used the same shelving to house several game consoles. I think I spent twenty-five bucks in total for my current solution, and it has performed far better than expected for over 8 years. Unfortunately,...

No Ethernet? No Problem! Powerline, MoCA, and Wireless-N Kits Compared

Even modern day new-construction often lacks the magic eight conductor cable strung to every room, meaning getting that connection to things like Slingbox, Xbox Live, and other web based devices can be a real challenge. Ethernet is the backbone of the network, and easily the fastest, most reliable way to network your devices. However, because most homes lack structural Ethernet wiring (and oftentimes adding it after the walls are buttoned up can be too difficult and/or expensive) a significant amount of effort has been put into creating devices that help you get network connections in other rooms using other means. Some rely on wireless technologies, while others rely on structured cabling common to homes. If you want to use a web-connected device in a room without Ethernet and you need to use an Ethernet bridge of some sort, you'll have to choose between one of three major technologies to get the job done: powerline, wireless, and coax. Here are three different plug-and-play Ethernet adapter kits (based on these different technologies I personally use) and...

Home Stereo power diversion problem

I have a RCA RT2770. It was workin great up till last week. Now, it seems to be sending the power normally for the sub into the rest of the speakers. When the sub is on and plugged in, the rest of the speakers seem to be pushing alota power and bass, more than they can handle really. When you turn off the sub or unplug it, the speakers go back to normal. I've tried rewiring the speakers. I turned it off for a few days and tried it again. My only theory is that the sub has gone bad and the power is being sent to the speakers somehow. Help please! A new symptom has appeared. Now when the sub is on, the system will not stay on for long, it always goes to standby. I'm pretty sure now its a problem with the sub. Just looking for verification or correction now.

They asked: Question: I recently moved into a great apartment, and in one bedroom they don't have a cable jack installed in the wall. The managers have told me I can't drill in the wall, but i need to have TV in that room. What can I do or buy to solve this problem? I dont mind spending a few $100 to get this solved. Answer: Don't worry Goatyeah... there are solutions for getting around this problem. And the good news, some aren't even that expensive. What you'll need to do depends on a few factors, like what kind of source devices you have available, and whether or not you're looking to pump HDTV into this room. You didn't indicate what kind of TV source you have. I'm going to go on the assumption you have a pay TV service like cable or satellite. If you have rely on broadcast, you'd only need a set of rabbit ears to get TV in that second room. The big question is quality. You'll need a different approach if you want...
