I've always had a bit of an obsession with PDA's. I've tried them all in search of the perfect one. I've had Palm, Windows. Psion, and others.

I don't currently possess them all, as some have been sold, or given away, but I present to you my current collection of PDA's.

There's a few rare jewels in here, and a few "non-PDA" items that are just too cool to not post!

First of all, I'm so jealous of the Newton. I know it would be easy to snag one on eBay but that seems like cheating. Someday our paths will cross I'm sure and me and Newton will become instant friends.

I also dig the Zaurus, I have one in my collection as well and would love to spend a day with it trying to figure out what it does (did?) well. Mine came to the collection as a donation from a friend but I know the Zaurus had a loyal following among Linux fans.

Well done with the pics btw, I need some help in creating better shots of my stuff.

Fantastic collection Peter! We've been friends for a long time, and I had no idea you had such a good assortment of PDAs. I know the Newton is a rarity (and quite cool), but I was most impressed by the Handyputer and the HP Palmtop. Very neat.

I'd also love to see a little more on the Zaurus. I was tempted to get when it came out... and I'm not sure why. Any operational pics? Maybe a new thread just on this device?

That old Compaq notebook is a bit out of place to me though... I know it does less than the half-way modern PDA, but it's still a notebook to me. I don't have anything in my collection quite that old, but I do have an old Toshiba Satellite PRO (Windows 3.11) that I'll post some shots of. In fact, my collection of ancient computer stuff might be a good topic.

On a side note, that HP h1945 still looks useful. Is that in operation or just on the shelf?

Great questions.  Maybe if I can work up the guts, I'll delve into Zaurus-land and post some pics of the thing in operation.  I had so many problems with it, though...

  • Battery life is miserable - with the CF WiFi card plugged in, attempting to browse the Internet, I had about 10-15 mins.  Could be a defective battery, but makes using it hard.
  • Had nothing but challenges upgrading/changing the OS
  • Very difficult to install new software
  • Syncing was a pain

Honestly, it's more for posterity and not really a very usable device, although very well made and cool.  Again, maybe I'll whip it out for another round, but I have some more collector's galleries to post :)

Yeah, I know the laptop is not a PDA, but was just too cool, I had to post it :)

And finally, the HP PDA is a very nice piece, and certainly could be in operation at this point.  Currently, it's shelved, but would be very useful.  I don't currently use it since it isn't also a cellphone.  I dig the phone/PDA combination.  All in all, it's still a great PDA!
