What does everbody use? I have found a ESR meter, Multimeter, and Flyback ringer, just about all I need. There are times, I will need an "O" scope but not very often. I only do repairs for a hobby though.

I have an older sencore flyback and coil ringer, an ESR meter I made many years ago that still has saved me thousands of dollars in time, and a good Fluke digital meter. I have the sencore scope that came as a package for testing TVs and VCR's. I cannot remember the model number as I lent it out to a bud a few months ago and have not seen it to this date. I will contact him tomorrow as we may be on the Peoples Court soon. But my best equipment that has saved me loads of cash on parts not blowing out is my trusty three way light bulb in a three way switch socket with wired clip leads on it.

Larry,

How do you hook up the light bulb? Do you put it in series with one leg of  the AC or both?

I have the end of the wires connect to clip leads so I take out the main AC fuse and clip across the fuse. Works lke a charm. Helps me find dead shorts or load shorts in the set without risking the burnout of new components or other components

Since I provide service at a number of sites, I need to be portable.  That being said, I usually survive with my Fluke 77, an ESR meter and a large hammer!

Hi Larry

I'm new here but i wanted to thank you for all the useful information.. I have that seemingly common convergence problem with Sony KP46WT510 model RPTV.. I've read as many of your posts and PDFs as i can find.. I've had no luck finding the service manual for the above model and I wondered if it is too large for you to upload to the Resources? .. I probably can't go the Pando route cuz I have Win98SE on my pc.. I'd really appreciate it if you could email me @ LarryHenderson@hotmail.com regarding the Service Manual? I'm attempting to replace the STK ICs (if i can order them or acquire them cheaply).. I found one Pico fuse on G board is a goner but the technician here has only 2 and 3amp.. no 5amp Cry .. he's retiring and is only doing warranty repairs.. i've been running around town trying to get a digital multimeter, de-soldering braid, heat sink paste.. i've found out that most tvs are sent 300miles to Winnipeg for repairs.. that's probably the reason I got a "free" defective RPTV to play with lol! I'm having a small problem (i hope) disconnecting the 2 red highvoltage(?) wires from the D board but apparently i can work on the board without removing them? Only if i want to take the board for someone else to replace the STKs i guess Cool I've been building old pcs from spare parts for a few years but tvs are new for me haha!

Thanks in advance for any help with the manual,

LH

PS HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! Hope you get this in time Wink
