I just bought a projection TV from someone who was moving and who said it was working. The problem looks like the common convergence problem that everyone talks about. (It looks like it's 3D but without the glasses.) However there is a big catch. The convergence is off only in 1080i, not in 480p.

It's perfect in 480p.

Nobody has ever mentioned, in regards to convergence problems in a Philips, that it only happens in one resolution (1080i) and not in 480p. In fact it appears that the convergence circuit is common in all resolutions. So how can that happen? If there were two convergence circuits, one for 1080i and another for 480p then I wouldn't be bothering with this posting but it appears that the same circuit is used at both resolutions.

 Any ideas about what is going on with my tv? I'd be most grateful and happy if anyone could clear this up.

An update: To clarify things a photo of the TV in 480p can be viewed here: http://myincarnations.com/images/pic1.jpg and here it is in 1080i http://myincarnations.com/images/pic2.jpg .

As you can see in 1080i the guns are converged only in the very center. From the center out in all directions it gets progressively worse and worse. (This should mean something to someone.) I am on disability and have more time than money so I am hoping someone can tell me what is wrong with this dang tv set.

to adjust HD convergence:
select AV4 (RGB HD input)and turn on the 1080i source,
then from the user menu: select Picture, scroll down to manual convergence.
Adjust the red centerpoint, then red multipoints,
adjust the blue centerpoint, then blue multipoints,
save the adjustments.

SD convergence is adjusted from the user menu while using one of the standard def inputs.

If convergence can't adjust then you will have to look into resoldering or replacing the convergence ic's and related resistors.

Search this forum for philips convergence for more info.

That was the problem. It was just grossly out of alignment on 1080i and perfectly aligned in 480p. That is how I got it used. Neither I or the previous owner knows how it got that way.
