Hello, as my header states, I have a Mitsubishi VS-50502 rear projection television. After the tv is on for a while, perhaps a half hour, the picture shuts off. The green LED stays on. After a while it seems to cool off and will work properly again. Then, after a while, it will shut off again.

I have unplugged the tv for many hours and the problem still persists.

Would I be making a mistake by using freeze spray on individual components to try to find the one that is heating up? A thermal issue is what makes sense to me. Am I on the right track? Perhaps I need to pull the boards and look for bad solder joints.

I would like to try the easier things first, of course.

I have also read about the tubes leaking on the circuit board, everything looks fine, Could I be missing something. The inside of the chassie looks very clean. Very little dust.

Plus, can anyone e-mail the service manual to me? My user manual lists models VS-45501, 45502, 50501, 50502. I don't know if the service manual will cover all the models as the user manual does.

My e-mail is matthewjgrabow@yahoo.com

Any help would be very appreciated.

In my limited experience, you DO need to start by looking for bad solder joints.

The coolant is very similar to automotive antifreeze, but clear. A severe leak can look like battery corrosion, a minor leak can be hard to see, just a clear "stain" in the boards dust.

When the tubes leak the fluid tends to run down to the lowest point of the metal crt rack. Look at the circuit boards in a left to right line across the chassis, directly below the lowest point of the crt rack for drips.

Thanks for the reply, it is so much appreciated. Bad solder joints seem like a pretty easy thing for me to look for. Would I specifically look on the high-voltage board? Or at least start there?

I don't really remember just what is inside, and it is up against a wall now, but I am assuming that there are a few different circuit boards.

I thought I read about a way to protect the circuit board from drips. Any suggestions for this? The boards were VERY clean when I got the tv. The people that owned it before me must have had an immaculate house. It is an older tv, and I really don't assume they cleaned the inside of the tv. They just got rid of it when it started to show problems.

Right now I have a box-fan on medium blowing into the back. The tv is staying on.
