HELP! Frown

I just replaced both colour convergence ICs (STK392-560).. replaced two 5amp and a 3.15A pico fuses .. no change .. still "bowtie" effect.. I noticed that one heatsink is quite warm while the other is cold so I turned the set off.. I assume that one or more of my joints may be defective? I used multi-meter to test for bridges.. seems ok.. I had a problem with one stubborn wire that wouldn't take solder.. Is it possible that I scraped back too far when i reamed out the holes? I used a small drill bit but it wasn't small enough to fit into the holes.. Oh also I didn't have any 3A pico fuses so I used a 5A to replace it temporarily.. This is the most complicated tv repair i've attempted so I'd really appreciate any tips or suggestions.. Thanks Tongue out

The STK you bought were they Orginal SANYO or Generic 's ?

Supposed to be genuine Sanyo .. I asked several sellers how to tell the difference.. the original STKs had 5 character ID beginning with "A".. the replacements had 5 characters beginning with "B" .. appeared to be identical..
I'm so depressed after spending $60 for nada that i don't know what to try next :(

some china made STK look just like Genuine SANYO hard to tell them apart from just looking at them BUT one sure fire way to tell is to see if the white lettering "STK392-560" will rub off with acetone The GENUINE Sanyo lettering will not rub off its laser etched The China made stk are painted on and will rub off with acetone

Sounds like you are missing a Voltage check pin 4 for a neg - voltage should be -27V to -32V & Pin 5 Should have a postive + Voltage +27V to +32V use pin 1 for Ground

Don't have acetone but i tried paint thinner on the STK lettering.. no effect on the old ones or the new ones.. I got 35V from pin 1 to pin 5 on both ICs but couldn't duplicate it.. zero from pin 1 to pin 4 on both.. rechecked all the fuses on board D (six 3.15A & one 2.5A) & G (two 5A & one BUS).. A-OK.. any ideas what i should do?

OK check voltages at connector CN8013 which connects to G board check # 4 for -22 Volts & # 6 is the postive voltage OR ON G Board CN5004 (1 -15v , 2 GND ,3 +15V , 4 -22V , 5 GND , 6 +22V , 7 GND , 8 NC , 9 +135v ) if no Neg Voltage at # 4 Double check Fuse P55001 (5A) and check L5008 should check just like a fuse Both on G Board

Thank you sooo much for your help :) .. You kept me going when i wanted to give up.. I spent an hour looking for the problem, checking fuses and voltages.. Finally I looked closer @ the joints on the IC that wasn't heating up the heatsink.. found a joint that was next to my problem joint and I had accidentally sucked off the solder becuz of a bridge .. added a bit of solder and installed D and G boards and VOILA! the convergence worked! :D haven't fine-tuned it yet but to me, it's a million bucks! Nvr had a big screen b4.. I think i'll enjoy the rest of the French Open tennis and Wimbledon haha! Oh the heatsinks are really hot.. i think i'll run it with the back off and a small fan blowing.. I can see why the ICs fail if there's no ventilation.. they must be scorching!!! Thanks again for your help :)

Glad you fixed your set man. Yes I do know these heat sinks can get relly hot. That is why you should use only original replacement convergence IC;s

Thanks for all your great advice, Larry.. I never would have attempted this repair if it wasn't for your excellent tips and information.. You make this website "ROCK" lol!

I have a Sony Model KP46WT510 TV> it works, but there is a red light flashing on the front. It blinks five times. Can you tell me what that flash code is and where to look for problem in TV? Or should we wait until TV quits?
Red light never blinked before, it would always be green when on and working. Thanks for your help!!
