I have a Magnavox MTV51 television, some time ago the word 'Factory' in red text has appeared at the top of the screen. I am unable to remove this word from the screen.

Any ideas how this might be done?

Thank you

Sounds like it got flipped into service mode. Have you tried unplugging the TV for about 20 minutes and plugging back in? On many sets, that's all you need to do.

Hello,

Thank you for the suggestion.

Yes, have tried turning the power off, but still have the problem.

I have also tried pressing an arrangement of buttons on the remote control. I have spoken to the distributor of the brand in our country and what they suggested did not work. They finally said that they did not know how to fix the problem!

Hmmm... On my set I need to hold the channel up button on the front of the TV when I plug it in to enter service mode. Perhaps it's something like that so it may be worth a try, but without the service guide for your TV it's just a shot in the dark.

Maybe one of the great service guys (a.k.a heroes) might have some insight if they've worked on that brand before.

That is a european model number. I do not have any access to any information on this model number. You will need to contact an authorized Magnavox dealer I'm afraid in your country. Good luck

Thanks for the suggestion Larry.

I have spoken to the Magnavox agent (Mistral, which is a Clipsal company) in my country (Australia).

The person I spoke to suggested a combination of buttons to press on the remote control. Of which I replied that my remote control did not have some of the buttons in the same location as they were directing me to. They then suggested to use the buttons in another location.

I tried what the person suggested and still the word "factory" remained on the screen.

The person then said that they could not help any further.

I asked if they could take this issue further? The reply was that the televisions come out of Hong Kong and they have no way of contacting the people in Hong Kong.

I wonder if the the following link to the owner's manual for the tv is of any use to someone, who might be able to cross reference it to a model in their own country. http://www.clipsal.com.au/trade/__data/page/81/W622.pdf

I appreciate the time people have taken to post replies at this forum. Thank you.

I really do not think any combination of buttons on the remote will solve your problem. My experience has been, when there is a section of the TV set's menu that needs to be addressed, you need to, 99% of the time, use the buttons on the front of the TV set. Good luck to you in this endevor. If you do find a solution to your problem, please post it here, as it might assist another poor sole who is having a hard time with their TV set with the same problem

You should have no problem posting a fix.

Hello,

Weeks ago I emailed the company which gave me the fix and asked permission for me to publish the fix. However, they have not replied to me. Therefore, I will now post the fix.

It is advised that the following is attempted by a suitably qualified technician. Please note point '4.5' to EXIT factory mode.

4.1 To Enter the "Factory Mode" (Models: MTV34 / 51 / 68)

4.2 Under the normal TV mode, press the 'RECALL' button (Has 2 circular arrows) on the Remote Control once. Immediately following, press the VOL (-) button on the TV and 'RECALL' on the Remote Control at the same time. (The screen will display "Factory" in red when in factory mode).

4.3 Once in Factory Mode you will need to push 'Recall' again then Press the VOL (-) on the TV & Recall on the Remote Control together to step through the following options:
Note: (It will be necessary to push the recall button on the remote once the settings have been adjusted in each mode, i.e. once in B/W ADJUST MODE, adjust the settings if required, then push recall, then VOL- & RECALL together to enter ADJUST MODE and so on).
. B/W ADJUST
. ADJUST
. SETUP

4.4 Use the P+/P- on the remote to select the item to be adjusted and V+/V- on the remote to change the value of the selected Item, once done, press recall on the remote again to step to the next mode as stated above.

4.5 To EXIT factory mode, simply keep stepping through the 3 modes (you will need to push 'Recall' again then Press the VOL (-) on the TV & Recall on the Remote Control together to step through) until the set reverts back to normal TV. (The settings are automatically saved at this point)

Hello Gene,

Great to hear that you were able to solve your problem.

Here is the spooky thing...I receive am email that you posted a comment at this forum today.

This evening another Magnavox tv which we have, in our lounge room just gave up the ghost! No picture, just a mash of lines....no matter what I try it will not correct itself. I assume it is an internal problem.....looks like this tv will be dumped!

Worked for me too, except I had to use a remote button labelled "Alt" instead of "Recall" - was my parents TV, they spilled coffee on the remote... dunno how they managed to get it into service mode that way!!!
