This is a dumb question I'm sure. I'm looking at the XBConnect.

I'm new to this stuff but I'm pretty handy with the computer. I'm a beginner at advanced network setup.

Okay, my son is interested in this xbconnect. His friend downloaded it on his computer.  Here's the problem...

The computer is hooked via wired ethernet through our router. We don't use wireless. The computer doesn't have a wireless hookup and our whole network is wired.

The XBOX 360 is hooked up through a wired connection as well in the same room.

What is the configuration if we want to hook this up properly. The link to the configuration page doesn't work.

Can I add an additional ethernet card into the computer and hook the xbox up to that?

I'm just a little confused here.

Please let me know.

Wired is the way to go, you definitely don't want to introduce wireless into the setup.

Did you take a look at the XBconnect install guides on their site? http://www.xbconnect.com/index.php?topic=networksetups

Ideally, you don't want to set up XBConnect via ICS through a PC. If you have a router, it will be easier.

Don't forget, you may need to open some ports in your routers firewall to make a connection with XBconnect. Have you looked into that?

I opened port 8602 on the router. My xbox is hooked up separately to the router. My son tells me he is supposed to be able to play on the computer? Is that what this program does. It looks like it just enables you to play some of the older games ie: halo original online through the xbconnect?

Well, XBConnect won't allow you to drop your XBOX Halo disc into your computer and play... that's not what the program does. What you're thinking of is an emulator, and I'm not aware of any decent XBOX emulators at this time.

What XBConnect does is allow you to play your multiplayer XBOX titles (like Halo) with other XBConnect users without having to use or pay for XBOX Live! service.

How it works is by using the LAN feature of multiplayer titles to your advantage. Most multiplayer games have a LAN feature which allows people on the same network (usually in the same house) to connect XBOX to XBOX and play. (think several people and several XBOX units hooked up to different TVs in your house). XBConnect makes (in a sense) a huge local area network.

Well, thank you for the help on this. I understand it better now. I think my son was just confused. At least I know that he can play what he wants on the xbox.

Not that I've seen. Multiplayer gaming on PS2 was always pretty week. I'd be interested if someone else knows of such a service.
