I just wondering if anyone else thought it might be a good idea to start a classified section strictly for electronics on this site? I don't know if there is anyone else out there trying to repair electronic items and is having problems finding parts etc. It could just be an area where members could post components or partial boards sections of appliances etc. and members could respond with the parts they had. This idea would definitely need some fine tuning but it is just a suggestion.

Hi Randy,

We've discussed the concept of adding a classifieds section in the past, but haven't revisited it in a while. I'll bring this idea up with the guys and see what the thoughts are.

Maybe include a trader or swap section. Used parts maybe for those parting out a set?

I think in general this would be a good idea.  I'm cpnstantly looking for parts that are no longer available or too expensive.  Salvaging them from scrap units would keeps costs down and help recycle older units as well.

I'm in.

Yea me too! I would think just letting members post what they have and leaving an e-mail address or maybe even a phone number. Maybe even post a picture or two.

Sounds like we're onto something. I too think swaping boards or parts is a great idea. It should definitely not be set up for people to start selling new items as a way to start making profits and taking up space, but parts and boards etc. is great. I know myself as a beginner and not too experienced am always looking for several parts for each unit I try to repair (not needing half of them) until I find the proper part needed to make it work. It's a good way to learn at a low cost.

I think even a section for people to post a "looking for" or "needed" ad would be good too. I know here in Pembroke Ontario we have several times a year a special garbage pick-up where people can put tv's stereos etc. out at the road that 90% of the time just need a fuse or something simple. Either way it's like Christmas for me and my pickup to load up and salvage parts. I'd definitely keep my eye open for models people need parts out of and many are newer models. Last year I got a 50" Hitachi projection tv that only needed a protector fuse and a capacitor. For less than 5 bucks I got a great tv!!

About 75% of my sales last year was in salvaged equipment.  My record is the sale of a 53" Sony projection for $600.  My total out of pocket cost was 1/2 cent for a resistor and about 20 minutes of time.  If only I could find more like that...

I got a 2 year old Sony projection TV set, No tuning, turns out it has a bad tuner but guess what? I use the dish box through the video inputs and I had a great TV set for nothing! I sold it with a VCR for 500 bucks. Zero cost except my own time diagnosing it. This way 2 1/2 years ago, Person is still watching it.
