Hi, everyone,

I am not 'technical' but I came across this community trying to find an answer to a question. I though someone here might be able to help.

I have a set of surround speakers from an old TV. They are what I would call 'conventional' speakers that are fed by ordinary speaker wire - two core with the bare wire ends connected to clips on the back of the speaker. Same arrangement for the output from the TV.

I have now bought a modern TV with audio out, left and right sockets on the back of the TV.

My question is this - is there some arrangement or adaptor whereby I can connect the exising surround speakers to the new TV using the exisiting speaker wire and surround speakers?

The reason I want to do this is that I have gone to a lot of trouble to bury the existing speaker wires under the floor and in the walls and I'd like to continue to use them if I can.

Many thanks

Are the outputs Audio line level or does it say speaker output. A make and model number of the TV set would certainly help. If it says speaker out, or to aux. speakers, I do not see any reason you would not be able to use them depending on what the impedance is on the speaker and what the TV output impedance is.

Larry,

Thanks for your quick response!

The TV is a Samsung PS42Q97HD. The audio sockets on the back of the set are discribed in the manual as "to connect RCA audio signal from the TV to an external source such as audio equipment"

Is this information any use?

Thanks

Dave

They cannot be connected directly to speakers. Those are low level audio output. They go to an input to an amp or a surround sound receiver.
