I use rechargeable Lithium batteries in my Olympus E100. Recently I bought a Cannon Powershot for my wife.

Her camera won't use the rechargeable 3 volt lithium and only uses the AA alkalines. They do make a Lithium AA nonrechargeable. I think it should work in her powershot. It takes two AA cells to power the camera.

There appears to be 2 cells in the CR-V3 rechargeable Lithium Ion Battery Pack. To me that means they are combining two batteries to get the 3 volts. Why don't they make AA batteries in a Lithium Ion Battery so the rest of the camera market can use them? Is there possibly a physical reason this wouldn't work? Or is there some kind of restriction?
