Most optical mice will only turn on the LED when the mouse is in motion. That is the only time when the optics are used.

i have an sony optic mouse with a red light that works for a few minutes and then stops. Is there anyway to fix it. I use my old regular mouse that i know how to take apart and clean every a couple of months but i would love to know how to fix this the red light still comes on

Dan I am usually in the middle of doing something when i hear a dong sound and the computer mouse stops working and the light goes on . If i replug it it works again and the same thing happens. i have tried reinstalling thee mouse drivers it dosent help. and i dont know how to get it to work or clean it
