I have a toshiba tv (TV-DVD COMBO) set, model #MD14FN1, and I forgot the parental control password. Does anyone know how to reset the password? I have surfed the net and found how the password is bypassed on other tv brands using master codes, but I have not found one for the tv model I have.
Please help!
I've reviewed the manual for your TV, and it gives no instructions on how to bypass or reset; it just says to contact your dealer. How crazy is that?
Look up Toshiba's contact info (The CE Customer Support Contact List) and give them a call. Maybe they can give you instructions over the phone. If they do, please post them here so others can benefit.
Good luck!
Thanks Matt for replying my posting, but I got it!
I GOT IT! I found a past posting here in TECHLORE.COM dated 9/3/2005. The TV was a Toshiba model #MD13P1 and the V-CHIP was bypassed holding down the VOLUME DOWN on the TV set and the ZERO key on the REMOTE control. This will alow you to go to the V-CHIP menu (TV MODE) and set a new password. Also, I found in the internet a Toshiba Service Instruction specifications sheet with the same process for different models #’s. It seems that this process of bypassing a forgotten V-CHIP password key is the same for quite a few Toshiba’s models. On TV model #MD14FN1, the one I have, you can set two passwords, one to set the V-CHIP password in TV MODE, and the second one to set the Parental Control password in DVD mode. To bypass/override the V-CHIP password see the see explanation above, and to clear the forgotten parental control password (DVD mode) you need to hold down the VOLUME DOWN on the TV set and the FOUR key on the REMOTE until the message “Initialize5 Complete” appears on the TV screen. After that, you can set the new parental password. I found the parental control process by trail/error I hope that this is clear enough for anyone dealing with the same problem.
Thanks for sharing this with us. This will be added to techlores list of override procedures.
FYI
I requested support from Toshiba Customer Service and the steps below show how to clear the parental control forgotten password. As you can see, it is different from the solution I found by trial/error and of course Toshiba's also works
To reset the Parental Control lock on your unit, please follow these steps:
-
Press the OPEN/CLOSE button to open the disc tray.
-
Remove the disc.
-
Press the OPEN/CLOSE button again to close the disc tray. The message "NO DISC" will appear on the TV screen.
-
While holding down the STOP button on the front of the unit, press the 7 button on the remote control. The message "PASSWORD CLEAR" will now appear on the TV screen.
-
Enter your new password.
SDiaz, you are the man. I also have a Toshiba TV and read your instruction on how to reset the parental control password and bingo, it worked. So happy you took the time to post a fix. Had to hold down the volume down on the actual TV until it got all the way down to zero, then I held down again on the volume down while pushing the zero on the universal remote I had and YATZEE, it pulled up the rest password screen. I reset the password and all is well.
Thanks again,

I found this to work on my Toshiba TV/VHS combo MV19M4 after trying others suggestions that had worked on similar models but nothing worked on mine. Maybe it will work for yours. Follow these steps:
1: Unplug the TV for 1 minute then plug it back in.
2: In the menu select

3: Move the blinking block to beside "V-CHIP Set" BUT DO NOT SELECT IT.
4: Hold in the number 1 button on the remote.
5: Hold in the volume down button on the TV.
Your TV will turn off. Give it a few seconds to reset itself and then turn it back on and you will have to completely reprogram your settings. When you go to the V-CHIP settings it will ask for your new code.

i was messing around with the volume down suggestion for my Toshiba MV20FL3 and what worked was:
Hold the down volume on the set and press the number 1.
It shut off and then I went to v-chip settings and it was asking for a new password. From there i just reset the controls.
thanks sdiaz!
this is the official email from Toshiba i received this morning. I hope it works for other brands too:
Thanks for writing!
"I apologize for the inconvenience. To reset the V-Chip on your unit, please follow these instructions:
Disconnect the AC power for at least one minute to reset the clock.
Adjust the volume to the minimum using the Volume down button on the front of the unit.
Press and hold the Volume down button on the front of the unit and the 0 button on the remote control at the same time, holding them down for at least 10 seconds.
The user menu will appear with the V-Chip cursor blinking.
Press the ENTER key on the remote control and the NEW PASSWORD menu will appear.
Enter your new password.
For further assistance, I recommend contacting our Customer Solutions Department at 1-800-319-6684. They are available Mon-Fri, 8AM to 7PM Central time."

I have an RCA T.V. and I mistakenly locked myself out of some channels due to the Parental Controls. I have never set up a 4-digit password, and it is requiring me to enter the password. How can I get unlocked?

My question still is not answered. I went into your “articles” and found nothing pertaining to my problem. Can you please assist further with determining how to unlock my V Chip Parental Settings?

OK not a problem but one of those should work as everyone has been field tested and have worked and if it does not that RCA must be made by a Japanese company called a badge set
