You most likely have a backlight issue with this TV set. Could be the inverter circuits for the backlights. The inverter is the power supply source for the backlights. there could also be a screen driver problem. This would entail changing the entire board. You should call in an authorized LG repair center to check this set out for you. Good Luck and please let us know what you found out about this TV set.

Thank you for your opinion,I wouldn't be able to repair it so I've already called LG service, they'll come and callect it within the next two days. Many thanks for a quick reply!

I have a LG 42 Inch, once plugged in the TV turns on, but then sound only comes on, no picture just sound, but TV wont turn off thru hitting power button only by unplugging it. the power light flashes like twice again its doesnt turn off only the sound is heard.

My 42" LG turns on and the screen is small in the top right corner. We must hit exit to expand to full screen every time.

A bit annoying and cannot get it fixed. We'ver reset factory defaults which did not help.

If its not under warranty, pull the back cover and check the capacitors on the power supply. If there are any that are bulging or show signs of fluid leakage, replace them. If that doesn't fix your no picture but sound issue then you have a bigger problem. You can do it yourself pretty cheap and its not that hard. Just make sure you use the proper replacement capacitors. Check out youtube for lcd tv repair and you should find what I am talking about.

I have a 42LG30-UD and I broke the coax connector on the back so I bought a board from some guy. I installed it and now I have sound but no picture. Just a grayish blue screen. The board exactly matches my old one smane part number as well- EAX42499101(7). I just found out that the board I bought came out of a plazma and I have an LCD. Is that why!? Thanks!

I have a similar problem. I will get a picture for a few minutes and the picture them blinks out. When I hook up to DVD or avi input, iwill get a picture for 30-50 seconds and then it goes black. Sound works fine. I have submitted the question to a paid forum to see if this is anything I may be able to fix. ( I know theory but am not a technician.). It is a LG lcd set- no longer under warranty.

I will post if I learn anything of value.

Just outside of warranty my 42" LG5020 has no picture on the left half of the screen, just a black patch. Right half has no problems. Just showing a complete split down the middle, right half picture, left half nothing???
Any thoughts welcome.

Alot of these tv's have bad caps on the smps board start there and look for the obvious swollen caps

My 32 inch Lg LCD tv has sound but the picture seems to be absent. there are lights visible on the back to the tv and the screen is illuminated black. I have been reading up on this issue and it seems others are having the same problem. I purchased the tv over a year and a half ago and cant seem to locate the receipt to hopefully validate the warranty. Can anyone help this situation??
