I bought a Magnavox TV, model TP2792 B103, manufactured in 1995, which didn't have a remote or manual. I need to find out how to change the channel labels in the menu, or whatever. The previous owner changed labels like CBS to Snot, etc. He "forgot" how he did it. Magnaxox was quick to sell me a replacement remote, but had no solution to my problem. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Larry,

Magnavox does not have the manual available online for reference, so we won't get any easy answers. I also dug out my old 19" Magnavox from 1996 to see if it could be of help, but alas, it didn't have the channel label feature.

No big deal, we'll have to do it the hard way. As long as you have the OEM remote, we'll be able to figure it out. Most likely, the place we do this is in the menu. So, grab a pen and paper, and jot down the main menu options. Like:

Main Menu
-Audio
-Video
-Setup
-Channel
-etc.

Do that, and we'll go from there.

Thanks. I believe the original remote had a "CHGDE" button. The replacement Magnavox sold me does not. The Main Menu includes:
PICTURE: color, bright, sharp, tint, & picture
FEATURES: picture source, closed captions, cable tuning, & channel memory
SOUND: bass, treble, balance, stereo, bass boost, sound image
MORE: set clock & on timer, sleep timer, alternate channel, channel display (only large or small), replay mode, pip size, source, position, & half hour reminder.

The first place I'd go is to the channel memory section. What's in there?

Under the Channel Memory:
Add/Delete Channels
Start Auto Programming

Select Add/Delete channels. This should bring you to the tuner. Check to see if you're presented label options in this mode.

Under the Add/Delete section, I only have the option of adding or deleting specific channels.
