TV gurus...

I have a MediaCenter PC hooked to my Samsung 46" DLP TV via a DVI-I-to-HDMI cable, and am experiencing the following frustration...

The TV is perfectly happy accepting 800x600x60Hz resolution or even 1280x720x60Hz (or something like that -- though I don't like the way the font looks, but not a technical issue). However, what I'd really like to do is set it to set it to 1024x768, but that totally messes up the picture.

Instead of the crisp clear monitor-like image I see at 800x600, it's like two images are overlaid and offset vertically. So, it's like the picture is vibrating up and down -- that's the only way I can explain it. (Interlacing problem?)

Anyone have any suggestions?

Can you provide the model number for your 46" DLP? I need to look something up on it to be of any help.

Actually, Samsung says that 1024x768 at 60hz will provide the best possible text on the display. Why it's not working is a bit of a mystery. First thing to check. Make absolutely sure that the refresh rate is 60Hz after you set it to 1024x768. In fact, if you hit Advanced --> Adapter tab --> List all modes, you can select the exact resolution and refresh rate from the list. Try both 16 and 32 bit color depths, though that shouldn't really make any difference. If that still doesn't work, I'd try disconnecting the PC from the HDMI jack, and connecting it with a VGA cable. Try it there and see if you get better results. Disable any programs like PowerStrip that may be affecting your graphics card output. There can be no interlacing problem since both the TV and PC are natively progressive, but PowerStrip can interlace any resolution... and that's something your TV won't like very much. Try out those ideas and post back with your results.

Finally getting around to posting. Yes, refresh rate is 60Mhz. In fact, no other setting is allowed.

I did temporarily replace the DVI-to-HDMI cable with a DVI-to-DVI cable, and it works great, but now I've got an extra $80 cable laying around and need to purchase another DVI cable (at least another $80). Plus, it makes no sense to me why the former solution wouldn't work.

Isn't it pretty much the same connection, DVI-to-DVI vs. DVI-to-HDMI?

You'd think so... Perhaps the cable you were using was interfering with the signal at higher resolutions, or it could be a bug in the way the TV was setup to handle high-res RGB signals through the HDMI input (probably a bug with the TV that you just discovered). Report it to Samsung, maybe you'll get a reward!

Never even considered that. I'll do so and report back.

In the meantime, I've ordered a new cable to connect DVI-to-DVI, which gets me lots of resolution options.

I have a Toshiba model# 57HA2 wide screen, and the volume is muffled. I tried to re program the tv, but I am still getting the same results.

I have a Sony surrond sound and DVD player. My DVD player has been working just fine and when I started to play it this week, I can get sound but no picture. The picture on the screen is just regular TV but I hear the sound from my DVD
