I've owned my Treo 650 cell phone for quite a while and have a free 128M expansion card that came with it when I bought it. Problem is, I really don't have any use for it at this point. Just curious why would anyone even need to use the expansion slot? What are your experiences?

256Mb MMC card, because my Nokia can play MP3s and I like keeping pictures on it, having the emergency app space, etc.

I can see keeping some pictures on it, but do you really use your phone to play MP3s?

Sure. My ringtone for some friends is Slayer's "Raining Blood". I sometimes get an urge for the Spiderman cartoon theme, or Hendrix's "Fire". What can I say, the right music makes a difference.

Ringtones I understand, but I can store a few of those on my internal memory. I'm talking about actually using your cell phone as an MP3 player like you would an iPod. I actually tried to do it on a plane last weekend until I realized that the headphone jack was too small for my headphones.

I haven't, but I do have a 1Gb MMC card specifically for that purpose. I've gotten a little paranoid about losing some files, and being able to play music off the cellphone does eliminate one gadget to carry.

I discovered on TechLore that I can get an adapter to get headphones to work with my cell phone, but apparently, it requires minor surgery...

I listen to MP3s on my TREO using the PalmOne adapter with no issue. Works great and fills out the 1 GB card I have.

That's about the only reasonable use I can think of unless you take a lot of pics with your cell phone camera and are too lazy to take them off every now and then. However, I've had my card filled with MP3s for over a year and really only had one occasion where I actually listened to them.

Ron I have a 1 gig card on my smart phone, I not only download and play music and short videos from things like U-Tub but have VM forwarded from our Exchange and Unified Messaging Phone system. These currently are comming across as WAV files as the provider has not yet figured out MP3.

Key feature of the unified messaging system is it uses everyone in the offices Outlook phonebook for caller ID, which is attached to the exchange message . That way I dont have to call my VM system and go through message serially. If I know the person, by the caller ID info I can take them and return them beofre listening through the hundreds of vendor VM.

So long and short totally gives me fredom from the office and I no longer have to call out to get the VM and listen to these serially from the road.

Memory is key cause the WAV format.
