rca p46811lv projection tv

first of all i have been having a lot of electrical outages lately. i do have a surge protector for my tv to plug into though. this morning my tv was working fine. i turned it off and later on back on. it would not go on. it sounded like it wanted to. it make a low poping noise. i unpluged it vaccumed it out and still no tv. its done this before and i unplug it and back in again and it goes back on. but this time no. also before this when i use the volume up or down it mutes itself when im using the remote.so i turn it off and on and then i get volume. i could work with that if i could get it to turn on. chasie #ptk195aa model #p46811Lv. i know that this is posted somewhere but i don't seem to know how to get to the answer part of the question. maybe you can direct me. thank you

This chassis is famous for

This chassis is famous for the high voltage transformer to short and go bad.  There is also a couple of capacitors that go bad sometimes along with the horizontal output transistor.  Now there is a slight tiny bit of chance that a small coil that is attached to the secondary of the horizontal driver transformer and the other end of this coil is attached to the base of the horizontal output transistor could need to be taken out of the board, the leads scrapped of of enamal and resoldered onto the board as this coil will cause intermittant problems of the set going on and off by itself.  Good Luck, and let us know how you make out with this.   The coil location is call L1401 or L401.

Hi Larry...

I have a set with the same chassis that is popping the HOT... The supply voltage is at 160VDC in standby, so I'm suspecting the flyback is shorted internally.  Do you know of a good place to get these parts?

Thanks in advance,

Mark

Hi Larry, I am also having the same problems with our TV I was wondering if you ever found out where to purchase parts for these TV's?  Is there a website or phone?  If you do, your assistance will be appreciated.  Thanks

Hello all,

Hello all,

(Larry - I was looking for websites that would carry these parts, as stores that carry them are hard to find any more.)

I have found the parts available for this set at partstore.com... the costs were as follows:

 - flyback transformer      $59.99

 - HOT transistor              $4.18

 - high voltage capacitor  $2.62

I figured the parts cost was worth a try, since the set originally cost me $1000.  I replaced all three, just to be safe, and the set is up and running again.

Now that I have my high voltage back, does anyone know how to adjust the focus on this set?

Thanks again...

Mark
