I felt inspired to create my own GES after reading this blog. I wasn't interested in video, just music, so my search didn't take months to complete. First, I wanted to listen to Interent radio and also stream MP3 songs from my computer. To that end, I purchased a Linksys Media Link, WML11B, from a computer trade show for $15 and downloaded the latest firmware, 2.6,  from a yahoo group dedicated to this player. It allows you to program up to 20 favorite internet stations and also use built in VTuner stations.  I used Tversity as my UPnP device to stream music from my computer.

Next, I used an AV splitter from the same computer trade show purchased for $8. This allowed me to reuse the speakers for the Linksys WML11B for 3 separate devices. I then added a Coby CD Player with AM/FM radio, which I got for $10. Finally, I purchased a couple of RCA audio cables for connecting everything to the AV Splitter, and reused a Y cable to connect to the AV Splitter to connect MP3 players directly to the speakers such as iPods for AAC formats. The cables cost $2.

The total cost was $35 and the effort took one month to complete.
