How do I Delete Songs from an MP3 Player?

A TechLore "Ask the Experts" Question...

Question:

My daughter has an RCA Lyra MP3 player model number RD1028A. We downloaded sample songs just to try it out, but now we do not know how to delete the files. Can you tell me how to delete them?

-submitted by Stacie

Answer:

Your RCA Lyra MP3 player is a Flash-based MP3 player. That means that it has a small amount of built-in memory inside the player as well as an SD expansion slot for storing songs. When the player is connected, songs may be stored in either of these two places.

Since you just opened your MP3 player and the player doesn't come with an SD card, you probably stored your songs on the internal memory. In either case, there are two basic ways to delete songs off of your player. You can use MP3 software (such as MusicMatch) to do this or just do it by hand.

I'm guessing that you probably originally put the songs on your player by hand (even if you didn't, this way will still work). To delete the files, follow the same process but delete the files instead of adding them. Assuming that you are using Microsoft Windows, click on "My Computer" and find the drive that is labeled "Removable Disk" and click on it. Look for a songs folder and continue to drill down folder by folder until you see your songs show up in the list. Highlight the songs that you want to delete (or the whole folder) and hit the delete button on your computer. Simple as that.

If you can't find your MP3 player on your computer, try reading this article for additional help. If you are still having problems, add a discussion to this article below and we'll be happy to help you out!

The RCA Opal can be managed by Windows Media Player. Connect the device to your PC and launch Windows Media Player. After your device is recognized, you'll be able to browse the music on it, delete it, and set up a new sync list to transfer music to the device.

How can I display the music on my MP3 player on my computer listed by singer? I am trying to rearrange the order of the music so that I can have a certain singers songs all play first on the MP3 player. Right now the songs are listed alphabetically by title when I plug the MP3 player into my Dell Computer.

i have a coby mp620-4g mp3 player. it was given to me as a gift.
A video was inadvertently downloaded onto my 'music library' file. I tried to delete it but when I checked the player, the file was still on.
I'm unable to access my music as a result of this.
Has my 'music library' files been corrupted ?
I need help in deleting that particular item from my music file...period !
Also, how can I get videos downloaded onto my mp3 which has facilities for videos ? Thanks much. I await your response.

To delete songs from my MP3 player I must be on a song (that you want to delete) there will either be a tiny trash can that you click on and a menu pops up and ask you are you sure you want to delete this song? If you do not see the trash can then you will see what looks like a file so click on it and it too will then ask if you want to delete this song.

I do not think you can! Your MP3 player lists your bands, Genre, etc.. but not by the singer. If you do mean by the name of the group then your MP3 player places your songs into separate categories.
